Matching $150K Campaign

Return to Events

A challenge grant of $150,000 has been offered to restore the core of the program back to the model program it was before ravaged by the storm. Timeframe is from May 15, 2012 to December 31, 2012.

By now, most people who follow charitable work in the community know that The Jesse Tree lost its Island and Peninsula facilities, its vehicles, equipment and supplies in Hurricane Ike. We also lost our monthly donors.

Despite being devastated by the storm, The Jesse Tree was one of the first organizations on the scene helping to rebuild and sustain those in need. Emergency federal funding allowed The Jesse Tree to help thousands of Galveston County residents with food, prescriptions, ID’s and case-management, but, the federal government did not provide funding to replace the lost buildings, equipment and supplies.

The federal funding is gone and it’s time to rebuild The Jesse Tree. Its holistic approach to providing care is needed now more than ever. The Chronic Conditions Management Program provides classes at Food Fairs and other locations to teach individuals with chronic health problems how to live healthier with their chronic conditions. These classes are provided at no cost to those participating and include Diabetes self-management, Living with a Chronic Illness, Nutrition, Stress Management and Relaxation Training and healthy cooking classes. The Jesse Tree enrolls people in programs that bring millions of dollars into the local economy, but those programs do not reimburse The Jesse Tree for its efforts.

Every dollar we raise up to $150,000 will be matched so that $150,000 raised will mean $300,000 in operating funds. We will be able to meet our goal if just 150 people would contribute $1,000 a piece. Any donation will help.

Our new President of The Jesse Tree Board of Directors has already donated $1,000. The below tree will be getting a leaf for each donation.
