Richard in Repose

I had seen Richard several months ago reclining on steps of a downtown church. He had been living in an adjacent alley for several years. The church was a mile or two from this location. (See Santa Claus Cart)

After years of decline this aging, boarded-up apartment complex had reached a point where even the homeless were seeking other housing opportunities. “Except for another resident in 2B, I have the place to myself. This place is in pretty bad condition and ought to be torn down”, Richard said with a big grin.

He had his trusty quart coffee mug, a Big Gulp soda pop, candy bar and a pulp sci-fi, who-done-it, murder mystery book. He had told me once before that he basically lived on caffeine and sugar. The sun was shining. He was home.
