Evening Set

It was the weekend. The sun was setting, ending a long, sweltering hot, summer day. The buildings darken and begin to blend together. Everything turns to shades of gray.

A lone figure crosses the normally busy street, oblivious to the traffic light. Perhaps he is headed for the Stew Pot, a soup kitchen at the Presbyterian Church, or one of the several homeless shelters, located just south and east of City Hall.

I wanted to show the scale of humans existing in relationship to the monolithic buildings of downtown. Positive and negative space plays strongly in this ink wash. The sky creates a giant hand and pointing finger – bearing down on the jaywalker.
